Londonderry Lad is an exceptional dark bay/black colt with modern conformation. He is extremely elegant, with very expressive gaits. His trot has lots of suspension, with a quick and powerful hind leg. His canter is well balanced and his hind legs come well up underneath him. He has a big ground covering stride.
His dam, Winesome has a pedigree that is truly a who's who of dressage w-line breeding. MS Winesome is a proven broodmare with superior conformation and temperament. Imported from Germany, she comes from a long line of States Premium mares. Her sire Weltmeyer has been called the Dressage Sire of the Century. He currently has over 80 approved sons standing at stud. Winesome's dam sire Werther has often been called "Versatile Werther" for his ability to jump as well as move. This versatility is the key to athleticism. Not only does Werther pass this trait on to his progeny, but he is known for passing on excellent temperament and rideability as well. Winesome is also the grand dam of Cabana Boy, a current star in today's dressage arena.
Londonderry Lad's sire Londonderry is also well known for producing dressage stars and stallions especially when bred to Weltmeyer mares. Both the stallions Liberty Gold and Locksley I who stand at stud in the US are from the Londonderry/Weltmeyer breeding line.
