Don Principe is a noble son of the legendary Donnerhall, "Dressage Sire of the Century", with a States Premium damline descending from the Celle Thoroughbred stallion, Prince Thatch xx. Prince Thatch xx is the sire of many well known dressage stars, including Piccolino, the German Men's champion mount. Scoring an amazing 9.67 on his walk, 8.5 on canter and rideability, Don Principe also scored a 9 on his character.
Don Principe has had a great basic foundation in dressage from his trainer Hans-Heinrich Meyer zu-Strohen, German Young Rider's coach. Of the first foal crop, a judge at the foal show in Suestedt, Germany, commented on the "excellent sons of Don Principe with the type we are looking for with very good movements." Don Principe
finished 2005 as the USDF Reserve Champion DSHB Stallion Horse of the Year and ranked fourth in the FEI
Six-Year-Old Division. He competed successfully at Prix St. Georges, scoring in the mid to high 60 percentile. In 2007, he finished third at the USEF Developing Horse Finals. Scoring in the high 60 percentile, Don Principe placed well at Dressage at Devon, and qualified for Prix St. Georges, Intermediaire I and Intermediaire Freestyle for Region 1 and the BLMs. His son, Don Royale MF, was the Reserve Champion 2005 USDF Weanling Colt of the Year. In 2006, Don Regale MF was the USDF Weanling Colt of the Year with an 82.3%. In 2007, six offspring were in the top ten for the USDF HOY awards, including Don Cooper MF, Reserve Champion Weanling Colt/Gelding with an 80.4%. Don Principe is also approved ISR/Oldenburg N.A. and GOV.
