Royal Prince made American history with his fourth place finish at the 2004 World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in Verden, Germany. Narrowly missing the bronze medal, Royal Prince was the highest-scoring Hanoverian at this international event and achieved the highest-placed finish for an American entry to date. At the East Coast Selection trials in advance of the World and National Championships, Royal Prince earned the remarkable score of 9.82 from Olympic judge Linda Zang, former Olympian Michael Poulin, and FEI-C judge Jayne Ayers.
Later in 2004, Royal Prince made a strong claim for the National Championship title in the five-year-old division, earning an overall score of 9.14 and finishing with nearly a full point lead over his fellow competitors. He consistently earns scores of 10 for his walk, 9 for his trot, 8.5+ for his canter, and 9+ for his submissiveness and overall impression. His impressive Reserve Champion finishes at both his 30- and 70-Day Tests at Adelheidsdorf suggested early on of his caliber as a dressage stallion, with scores of 10 for rideability and 9 for willingness to work. He finished fourth in the finals of the Bundeschampionat as a three-year-old and was First Reserve for the finals as a four-year-old.
